Meet Greta Garbo! A beautiful tortie, she can be sweet and friendly, but is also very shy. Like that famous actress who shares HER name, she can appear mysterious and may be hard to find - often because she might hide under her blankets or in a cat bed as she is very noise-sensitive and startles easily. But unlike that famous actress, she does NOT want to be alone and can enjoy quiet company from that special "cat person" (adults only, please - kids are often too noisy for her). Usually quiet, she can be vocal at times, including sounding cranky if she's under a blanket and can't see you. But do approach her with patience and gentle handing, and she can warm up and be quite affectionate with nuzzling, head bumps, and "making biscuits," and wanting to hang around you for petting sessions. She is reluctant to leave her cage, especially during busy times, so let her set the pace. Greta was originally a stray and she has had some hair loss, but it's growing back. This is due to a flea allergy, so make sure she is regularly checked and treated. Also, she is underweight, so work with the vet to have her gaining weight in steady amounts and staying healthy. Given her sensitivity, Greta may be best as a solo cat, and she does need a quiet grown-up home with lots of blankets, beds, and other safe spots, so talk to our adoption counselors on how to adjust her to new environments with time and patience to make her feel safe and comfy. Greta Garbo could be the right loving companion for that special someone, so spend time with her and enjoy.
